Wild One Safari Party
The most requested first-birthday theme we style, and the one that survives contact with actual toddlers best.

“Wild One” has been the default first birthday for years now, and there's a reason it keeps working: the palette is warm and unisex, the props are soft rather than breakable, and a room full of one-year-olds looks genuinely charming in it rather than staged.
The palette
Skip primary-color jungle. The version that photographs is sand, olive, camel and rust with real greenery — monstera or palm leaves if you can get them, eucalyptus if you can't. Add one deeper anchor (cocoa or forest) so the whole thing doesn't wash out.
What we bring
Rattan chairs are the natural fit here — woven cane reads as safari without a single printed animal on it, and it does the styling work for you. Pair with a kid-height table and a dessert cart for the cake. See the rattan collection.
Food that fits
- Fruit in blocks of color — mango, melon, berries. Reads tropical, costs nothing.
- “Animal feed” snack cups: pretzels, popcorn (age 4+), banana chips.
- A snack board on the table from arrival — see our kids' charcuterie board.
One activity, done well
Animal masks or ears the children decorate and wear. Wearable beats hold-up props at this age, and it doubles as the favour and the photo prop. Our foam board props method adapts directly — swap the crown shape for ears.
Keep the greenery out of reach and skip anything with small parts. Style the dessert cart heavily and the children's table lightly — the cart is where the photos happen and it's above grabbing height.

Frequently asked questions
What colors go with a Wild One safari party?
Sand, olive, camel and rust with real greenery, plus one deeper anchor tone such as cocoa or forest green. Avoid primary-color jungle palettes — the warm neutral version photographs far better and suits both boys and girls.
What chairs work best for a safari themed party?
Rattan or cane chairs. The woven texture reads as safari without needing printed animal decor, and it coordinates automatically with the sand and olive palette. They're also kid-height, so one-year-olds can climb in unassisted.
Is Wild One a good first birthday theme?
It's the most requested first birthday theme we style. The palette is unisex, the props are soft rather than breakable, and it photographs well with toddlers in frame rather than looking over-staged.
